The Problem
In Africa, youth face a myriad of challenges, ranging from human rights violations to economic disparities and limited access to education and healthcare. According to data from the United Nations, Africa has a youth population of over 200 million aged between 15 and 24, making it the youngest continent in the world (UN, 2022). In Rwanda and East Africa specifically, the average age of youths is approximately 19 years old, highlighting the significant demographic of young people in the region (World Bank, 2021). Despite their potential as catalysts for positive change, many African youths grapple with unemployment, political marginalization, and social injustices, hindering their ability to thrive and contribute meaningfully to their communities. Addressing these issues requires concerted efforts from governments, civil society, and international organizations to create inclusive policies, provide education and skills training, and uphold the fundamental rights and dignity of all young people.

In these programs, young participants not only learn the fundamentals of the game but also develop essential life skills such as teamwork, communication, discipline, and resilience.
